
Joanna Duarte
Biography
Joanna Duarte is one of the Program Directors of Freeport Recovery with over a decade of recovery from addiction since 2012. She co-founded and helped build an addiction treatment program that combines evidence-based modalities with a holistic approach to support meaningful change in the lives of many individuals and families. She brings strong leadership experience managing residential substance use disorder programming, developing creative and person-centered treatment initiatives, and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of CARF standards, all grounded in irreplaceable lived experience.
Joanna is currently completing a Professional Addiction Studies Diploma at McMaster University and a Social Service Worker Certificate through Thompson Rivers University. Outside of her work in recovery, Joanna is a tattoo artist, MMA athlete, and active member of the Refuge Recovery community. She cares deeply about the people she serves and is committed to walking alongside each client with curiosity, compassion, and respect for the individual experience.
